Table of Contents

KEY QUESTION FOR ME: What theoretical information will readers need to understand/know in order to make sense of my project?

Ch. 1: Introduction
Ch. 2:
  • Adult Learners
  • Adult Learners in Comp
  • My Study
  • Literacy as Social Practice
  • Workplace Literacy
  • Academic Literacy
  • Transitions (work to school/school to work)
Ch. 3: Stories of School and Literacy Development (end with Tony Vaccaro)
Ch. 4: Workplace Writing (end with Tony Vaccaro)
Ch. 5: Genre Knowledge and Identity Negotiation: Transitions From Work to School
Ch. 6: Implications and Further Research

What about the terms Genre Knowledge and Identity? How do these fit?

Is there a way to foreground Tony's experience in each of the chapters? I'm thinking about how Beaufort made Tim the focus of her book on academic literacy and how Sohn focused on three women, in particular, but had the rest of her participants in the background. I can already conceptualize this for Ch. 3/4. Ch. 5 was to be almost entirely about Tony. Is it worth starting broad? Yes.

Tony carries and is negotiating two things:
  1. his past experiences with, and relationships to school and academic literacy--ch. 3
  2. his professional identity and workplace literacy practices (current memberships outside of school)--ch. 4
